Raytown South teacher receives “Teachers Who Inspire” award

Mr. Martin and students Raytown South High School teacher Mr. Brent Martin was selected as one of nine teachers across the metro to receive the “Teachers Who Inspire” award sponsored by KMBC 9 News and Avila University. Raytown South junior Trevor Leslie nominated Mr. Martin for inspiring him to pursue his passion for helping students with special needs and helping him to continue to develop his talent in theater light design. KMBC and Avila surprised Mr. Martin with a $900 check and Trevor will receive a $100 check. 

The “Teachers Who Inspire” award recognizes teachers who make a difference, motivate, and challenge students both inside and outside of the classroom.

KMBC will air the surprise announcement during the 9 p.m. newscast on December 11 and the 4 p.m. newscast on December 12. The video will also be included in a special public service announcement featuring “Teachers Who Inspire” award recipients.

One teacher will be selected out of the nine finalists by an online vote to receive $1000 dollars for their school. Voting will begin on April 23 on the KMBC website.
